Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease which can affect every area of your life, especially if you don’t take proper care of yourself to keep symptoms under control. The causes of the disease aren’t entirely understood and the symptoms can vary from one person to the next. Regardless of exactly how it manifests, it’s a struggle for many fibro patients to simply make it through each day, and decreasing fibromyalgia flare ups is the number one goal.

The most common symptom of fibromyalgia is chronic muscle and joint pain, but there are a constellation of other symptoms which can make the pain even harder to bear. These may include having trouble sleeping, headaches, dizziness, irritable bowel, depression, skin irritations, anxiety and many others.

In order to keep your symptoms under control, you need to begin with one simple rule:

LISTEN TO WHAT YOUR BODY IS TELLING YOU.

If your body is telling you that you need more sleep or that the pain is too severe to do everything you wanted to get done today, listen.

SLEEP IS A BIG FACTOR

There’s nothing worse you can do for yourself than to push yourself too far. If you wear yourself out, you could end up making your symptoms even worse. Instead of trying to complete your to-do list at all costs, limit your activities to those which are manageable given the severity of your symptoms.

STRESS IS DEFINITELY A TRIGGER

Stress is known to be a trigger for fibro symptoms and when you’re under stress, symptoms tend to become worse. At the same time, when you’re experiencing severe symptoms, the last thing you need is to try to deal with stressful situations – it can be too much to handle.
