CARLSTADT, N.J. — The Carlstadt Volunteer Ambulance Corps will again hold a Sensitive Santa Workshop for children with special needs. The free event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 6, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at 424 Hackensack St. in Carlstadt. Each child will visit with Santa one-on-one, with no crowds, no lines, no loud music or flash photography.
The child will spent ten minutes with Santa, talking with him and helping with his pre-holiday preparations in a calm and soothing environment. The annual event started as a need within the corps.“It’s a huge need,” said Marlene Biggy, event coordinator “It grew out of a conversation with corps members whose family had special needs or knew families with special needs children.”
This year-round Santa, who summers in Lyndhurst, is experienced with special needs children.“He is so good with these kids. They just open up to him,” said Biggy. “The kids take it at their own pace. If the child is on the floor, he’s on the floor.”“These kids deserve to have the same experience that everyone else does,” said Biggy. “It’s magical little moments that couldn’t happen otherwise.”Space is limited and reservations are required.
