Touching moment a nine-year-old Michigan boy with cerebral palsy tries to stand for the national anthem

This is the heart-warming moment a boy with cerebral palsy attempts to stand for the national anthem. Logan Wilson, nine, of Chesterfield, Michigan, loves baseball and football, according to his mother Rebecca. Although Logan can’t stand due to spastic quad cerebral palsy, he still attempted to show his respect for his country during the Star Spangled Banner, Rebecca said. The nine-year-old, who uses of medical devices to get around, is a sports fanatic.

Rebecca said Logan fell in love with the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions after she began taking him to baseball games a few years ago. Logan also plays in the special needs baseball league. So on Monday, when Rebecca played a DVRed game, she noticed Logan trying his hardest to stand for the anthem. ‘He always takes off his hat but until yesterday I never really saw him try to stand. ‘He just knew that is what we do to show respect to our country and everyone who fights so hard for us. He is truly just an amazing kid just doing what he loves,’ Rebecca told. On Monday, when Logan’s mother Rebecca Wilson played a DVRed game, she noticed Logan trying his hardest to stand for the anthem. As the anthem plays, Logan tries multiple times to stand but falls back on to the couch each time. Toward the end of the song he even tries to sing along.

As it finishes he says, ‘Yay!”Logan, are you supposed to stand for the anthem?’ Rebecca can be heard asking off camera. The boy nods his head yes to her. Rebecca said even though Logan has a limited vocabulary, he is able to understand everything.  ‘Even my 9 year old with cerebral palsy (who can’t walk) knows you’re supposed to stand up during the national anthem.Rebecca admitted her post was a jab at Colin Kaepernick and other athletes who have refused to stand for the anthem in peaceful protest. She said even though she doesn’t agree with their protest, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. ‘In my opinion, I believe they are not only disrespecting their own country, a country that affords them the right to do what they did, but also disrespecting all the people who fight for this country. ‘I do not disagree with their reasons for doing what they did, I disagree with the actions they took,’ Rebecca said.
